About– We buy our firewood from a vendor. It is cut to length and split from seasoned logs that have been down for over a year. This method reduces the time it takes to become seasoned. The exact amount of time it has been cut and split will vary. We do communicate with our vendor regularly and update our website with what class of wood we are selling as needed.
Buying– We recommend buying firewood as early in the season as possible. MassMulch recommends giving the wood 5-10 days before burning after being delivered. This will allow some of the moisture trapped in wood from being stored in larger piles to dry.
Loading– We sell our wood as loose firewood. This means it is loaded with a machine and measured by the cubic feet of the bucket. A loose cord measures 190 cubic feet and is equivalent to a cord that measures 128 cubic feet.
Storing– Proper stacking and storing of firewood is important. Semi seasoned and seasoned is ideally stored in the sun and allows air to get to it as much as possible. Kiln dried would ideally be stored inside to keep any moisture from being pulled back into the wood.
Size– The firewood is cut to 16-18″ lengths, but can vary in length a little. If you have any limitations on pieces larger than 18″, please notify us at time of placing your order so we can confirm the current size will be ok.
Firewood that has been cut and split earlier this year. It appears to be burnable at this time, but no guarantees can be made because of the time of the year and is being purchased. We do test some pieces, but can not test them all. The wood is also stored outside and uncovered and subject to the weather. Presence of snow is possible. We suggest buying Kiln Dried if you have any concerns.
Firewood that has been cut and split with the intention of it being burnable this season. Due to the firewood being stored in large piles and outdoors, there is a chance of pockets in the pile that may contain more moisture than we would like. We screen and rotate the wood to allow sun and air to it, prior to shipping. Unfortunately, we can not guarantee all of the wood is fully seasoned, because the time of the year it is being purchased. If some pieces require extra time, the lighter feeling pieces should be the ones ready first. Then the heavier ones may be able to be used once the fire is established. We do not cover the wood. If it snows, there is a chance of snow being mixed with the wood as we do not clear the snow off the pile. We will do our best to avoid the snow as much as possible. Get delivered price. Not to specific product as we may not carry all products year round.
Firewood that is mostly all ready to burn soon after being stacked and stored in a dry area. Some pieces may require a little extra time due to the species of wood or due to pockets in the pile that did not get enough sun and air while being stored in larger piles. The heavier pieces will be the ones that should be given a little extra time. Excessive rain could cause firewood to need a little extra time to dry. This is surface water and does not cause the inside of the wood to un-season. Get delivered price. Not to specific product as we may not carry all products year round.
